Thanks to everyone who has subscribed and shared this project.
Extra special thanks to the three of you who have pledged to the paid tier. Your belief in this project has inspired me to set some financial goals and try to bring a print publication to life.
I’m looking forward to bringing Neurokind to life in 2024.
You can support Neurokind by becoming a paying member. Every dollar earned will go back into the project.1 With your help we can bring Neurokind to print.
With just 25 paying members we can fund an annual print publication.
Monthly pledges are just $5. Or if you’d like to contribute more you can become a Patron-of-the-Arts.
Membership perks include:
Submit additional works for each open call.
Open calls will be free of charge to keep this publication accessible.
Free submissions may include 1-2 works.
Members may submit up to 5 works for consideration.
Join the Neurokind Artist Directory.
Members will have the option to be listed in the Neurokind Artist Directory.
The directory is for creators of all mediums (including writers, makers, musicians, etc.) Neurokind operates under the concept that all creative acts are art and therefore all creators are artists.
Please keep in mind that I am running Neurokind in a volunteer capacity. To protect my creative energy I will be updating the directory twice a year (versus doing so after each individual sign up.)
Member Exhibition & Chapbook
Once year members will be featured in a Member Exhibition.
This will be an opportunity for every member to showcase their work. Work from each member will be included (provided it meets the criteria of submission.)
For writers there will be an annual chapbook to highlight member’s writing. Whether this is digital or print will depend on how much funding comes in.
Multipassionates may, of course, submit work to both.
Announcing Artists-in-Residence!
Meet the artists who will be creating work and hosting workshops for us in 2024.
Our visual Artist-in-Residence is potter Richelle Shadoan (California, USA.)
Artist Statement
I’ve always been an artist; my earliest memories are of making art. I am currently working primarily in ceramics. The connectedness of my hand and the medium of clay very much appeals to me. I envision working in ceramics for the rest of my life.
I am curious about the façades we hide behind and the barriers we construct to shield and protect ourselves and I am imagining those things as literal masks. Besides being culturally relevant, they serve as a physical and metaphorical separator between ourselves and the rest of humanity.
Masks are personal to me as a neurodivergent person living in a neurotypical world. Masking is something I’m good at and I enjoy the mystery. Masking allows us to present ourselves as we wish to be seen. There is a sense of safety in being able to observe without being observed.
You can connect with Richelle on Instagram @redscorpiomade.
Our Writer-in-Residence is multipassioante Claire Venus (Northumberland, UK.)
is a neurodivergent creative, writer and mentor. She’s also a mum, a wife and a human fascinated with joyful and spontaneous co-creation.She lives under dark skies with her family on the Northumberland Coast. Her artistic practise is rooted in collaboration; with people, the environment (both on and offline) and the way all of it makes us feel.
You can follow Claire’s writing here on Substack at
.Our Poet-in-Residence is Zoe Gardiner (Durham, UK.)
is a multi-passionate - a mother, a research scientist, a creative, a postpartum activist, a writer and Founder of Postpartum Matters, a not-for-profit creating space to share postpartum stories, supporting postpartum people and fighting for change to the current model of care. She publishing poetry and personal writing at
.If you’re interested in being an Artist-in-Residence in the future be sure to submit work to Neurokind next year.
Every artist who submits work will be considered for a residency in 2025. The names of the residencies will be tailored to the artists. (Sometime in the future we may have a Playwright-in-Residence or a Maker-in-Residence.)
Invitations will be sent in autumn and artists will have the choice to accept the residency or pass the opportunity along to someone else.
You can read more about the residency programme here.
This is an independent, volunteer run publication.

Hi everyone! I’m so excited about this new project! I’ve recently experienced a loss in community and have been trying to reach out more. That’s difficult when my little hobbit hole of a studio is so inviting, but I’m trying! I look forward to meeting fellow neurodivergent creatives. I’m a visual artist and designer with passions/special interests including nature, animals, the seasons, reading/books, outdoor adventures/wanders, myth, fantasy, and sci-fi. I have started a Substack newsletter here and my profile has links to my Instagram and website.
So excited to see what the new year brings with Neurokind, thank you for sharing!
